Lamayana lends itself to leisurely days relaxing in the shade of the riverside Podo trees or on the large sun-dappled river rocks, indulging in a hot bath under the stars or simply meditating on the mountain in all its changing moods. The farm is a children’s paradise, with a zip-line, tree house and swings as well as all the usual fun of camping and outdoor life. Children will love helping with the milking, collecting eggs or digging for a bunch of carrots for lunch.

For the adventurous, swimming holes, hiking, biking, provide hours of entertainment. There are walks around the farm, along the river, or up to the local dam with views of Mt Kenya and Aberdares on either side. Ropes courses, and fishing are nearby, and you can visit the Mau Mau caves, the waterfalls of the Burguret or more ambitious hiking trails on the lower slopes of the mountain. Then of course, there is the Mountain itself, and Lamayana is the perfect base camp for climbing Mt Kenya.

Lamayana is a bird watcher’s paradise with its varied ecosystem, attracting parrots, birds of prey, water birds and a myriad of sunbirds. You might find otter scat on a river bench in the morning, and, if you are lucky, even hear a hyena call at night.

Lamayana is positioned at the centre of some of Kenya’s most stunning attractions. Mt Kenya itself is only a twenty-minute drive up the road, with the conservancies of Ol Pejeta and Solio just west of the Nanyuki road. Beyond Nanyuki is the Ngare Ndare forest with its blue waterfalls and canopy walk. Nanyuki, less than half an hour’s drive from the farm, is a vibrant up and coming town with a number of restaurants and cafes, as well as supermarkets and other amenities.
